Dear Fellow alumnae & Flintridge Sacred Heart community,

when we took our first steps as flintridge sacred heart alumnae, we knew we were entering into a world that would inspire us, stretch us, and challenge us. even so, i think it’s safe to say that none of us expected a year quite like 2020. 

during our alumnae board retreat, we reflected on reframing 2020 as a year of opportunity, rather than a period of lost time. this is not always easy to do, but as a community, we share a call to work towards reconnection, progress, justice, and service.

one of the silver linings during this unprecedented time has been the chance to witness all of you making waves in the world with intelligence, grace, and dedication to truth. the newest members of our alumnae family, class of 2020 graduates, rose to the occasion and embraced a virtual senior year with resilient tenacity. alumnae across generations and geographical boundaries have embodied a similar legacy: you have used your talents, studies, careers, and resources to uplift students, patients, children, neighbors, and colleagues. you have worked for healing. you have marched and spoken in the name of racial justice. you have acted. you have served. you have led. you have inspired.

your examples have driven us to expand the alumnae board, establishing diversity, equity and inclusion positions and an international relations position. for the first time, meeting virtually has stimulated the opportunity to include board members from across the nation, as well as our first member in mexico. together, these diverse leaders will lend their time and talents towards continuing the betterment of our community for women of all ages and backgrounds. our current board members will also recruit and support potential future members, ensuring the continuation of this momentum. in addition to upholding time-honored traditions, we are actively planning new programming that addresses the questions, challenges, and calls to action that many in our community have so rightly raised. together, we have committed to having difficult discussions, with fruitfulness and empathy at their heart.

while i could never speak on behalf of every unique voice on our board, we have all agreed that we are dedicated to serving as your representatives and your liaisons. we understand that you have distinct stories, memories, and constructive feedback. we welcome and cherish all of these communications because, through them, you demonstrate deep compassion for the young women that flintridge sacred heart serves. in a world that demands our time, energy, and talents in so many deserving places, thank you for your commitment to making a difference through your alma mater.

as a freshman fortunate enough to attend flintridge sacred heart on a scholarship, i was only just beginning to understand the strong will and goodwill of women who paved the way before me. together, let us celebrate the veritas that flintridge sacred heart taught us to seek, and let us continue fostering this truth for many generations of fellow students and alumnae to come.
